Lenticular technology is a high-resolution imaging process that creates images closer to reality by incorporating three-dimensional effect.
3D is achieved with a vertical lens affixed on a 2D image converted into several layers corresponding to different spatial planes. The right eye perceives an image while the left eye perceives another; the brain interprets these two images as one single three-dimensional image. We then obtain depth which in turn provides the illusion of a third dimension
Visual change involves moving from one image to another according to the visual angle. The artwork typically has 2 or 3 images for maximum effect.
This effect is greatly appreciated by photographers as it allows them to present several works of art in a distinct way or in a more elaborate arrangement. The effect is perceived when the observer moves. It is realized thanks to a vertical lens affixed on the interlaced image of the 2 or 3 original pieces.
The “animation” lenticular effect offers a movement of the image which depending on the number of sequences may appear continuous. The scrolling of several shots in sequence evokes a short-animated film.
This effect gives the painting a dynamic feel and allure with its interactive character. Anywhere from 12 to 64 images can compose an animated lenticular piece. This sequence is at once interlaced and captured by the observer through a vertical lens.
